Thai Basil started in 2011 with a group of us who love food and wanted a restaurant of our own, somewhere we could cook good food in a good atmosphere. We began by renting a restaurant in Shipley, then took the step of building our own place in Skipton, a small historic town in North Yorkshire with beautiful scenery all around. It felt like the perfect spot for us, and it still does.

There is a small bottle bar in the room, so something to drink with your meal is never far away, and it tends to reach the table as quickly as the food does. If you would rather eat at home, everything we cook is available to take away for collection from us in the town centre. We do not offer delivery.

Grilled satay with the peanut sauce people keep writing to us about, rich, nutty and made in our kitchen.

Wok stir fries

Classic Thai stir fries with jasmine rice, often on the table within minutes of ordering.

The room is part of the fun. It is a high ceilinged Victorian front room done out as a jungle, with leaves and wisteria overhead, parrots on the branches and a life size tiger keeping an eye on the tables. Families, couples and groups all settle in, and nobody is ever rushed.
